Bonkers…

Here at Figuring it Out as we Grow we officially have our first followers that aren’t my friends that I have begged to come read my blog!!! So, I thought I would let them know what they are in for so they can either run away while they can or stay and enjoy the madness : )  I found this quote on Facebook, and thought it perfectly summed up … well, me!

Unlike most fleeting Facebook moments, this one stuck with me. This has always been one of my favorite movies. In hindsight, maybe watching the caterpillar smoking a hookah, and a girl who takes pills and talks to a vanishing cat are why I made some of the choices I did, but that’s a post for another day! With all of the bad things this movie exposed me to, it had some great lessons as well, and this, to me, is one of the best. I’m not normal… never have been, never will be, and more importantly, I don’t WANT to be! I’m happy to be a little off my rocker!

The most unhappy time of my life was when I was trying to fit in. This phase didn’t last long because, thanks to my mom, I have always been pretty comfortable in my own skin, and while I was trying to be someone I was not was the uncomfortable I’ve ever been. Writing this blog has forced me to get more in touch with myself than I have been in a long time. Putting all of you out there for complete strangers in hopes that they will like you is totally nerve racking, but once you get past the fear it’s… exhilarating, amazing, soul cleansing… I could keep adding adjectives here, but I think you get the point!

Becoming a mom is a MAJOR life adjustment… especially since I was the girl who never wanted kids! Little did I know how well being a mom would fit on me. Better than any pair of jeans ever has : ) I love this new crazy stage of our lives, and I hope I can instill in my kids that it’s ok to be a little bonkers. As long as you are being true to yourself, you are perfect. One of my friends told me the other day that my son was a little crazy, and I said “I know, thank you!”  He said it like it was a bad thing, but I took it as a total compliment! After all, crazy runs in our family : )

Does a little bit of crazy run in your family??? Have you ever tried to hide your crazy side to fit in??? How are you teaching your kids to embrace their inner bonkerness???

    1. Living life with a lot of crazy is the only way I know how : ) My favorite part about blogging so far could be the sisterhood that comes with it. I find I don't have the time to actually go out with my friends anymore so it's nice to have another way to bond with women who I can relate to. Thanks for stopping by!

  8. What a great post. And yes being a loon runs in my family. I come from a long long line of nuts and I love it. I guess when I was younger I probably tried to fit in with others but it didn't last long for me either. I've always marched to own band and even though it has gotten me in a bit of trouble in the past...it was my doing and not someone else's. I love being me even with all my craziness and this is how I named my site: www.alittleunhinged.com
